Kyle Crabtree received a B.S. in Chemistry in 2006 from Ball State University, where his undergraduate research in the area of physical organic chemistry involved the photochemistry and reactivity of azidopyridine-N-oxide compounds. He then moved into the area of astrochemistry for his Ph.D. studies at the University of Illinois, where he used high-resolution infrared spectroscopy to investigate chemical reactions of the H3+ ion under astrophysical conditions under the supervision of Prof. Benjamin McCall. After receiving his Ph.D. in 2012, he received a CfA Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, where he worked with Dr. Michael McCarthy to measure the rotational spectra and molecular structure of exotic reactive molecules of atmospheric and astrochemical interest. He then joined the faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Davis, in 2014, and is currently an associate professor. His group’s work has been supported by NSF and NASA. Kyle was the recipient of a a Hellman Fellowship in 2016, an NSF CAREER award in 2021, and the Laboratory Astrophysics Early Career Award from the American Astronomical Society in 2022. He currently serves as Past Chair of the American Chemical Society Astrochemistry Subdivision.
